The Perfect Valentine’s Gift for My Boyfriend:
My boyfriend’s daily skincare routine is so traumatizing to me that I generally try to avoid getting ready with him in the morning. What could cause such distress?! Well, the only time soap touches his face is when shampoo is being washed out of his hair. Plain and simple, he does not have a skincare routine. I don’t know why caring for the skin became solely a woman’s interest, but it certainly does not need to continue on that path. We all have skin; there is nothing brazenly feminine about products designed to better the largest organ of your body. So for this Valentine’s Day, I decided to include in the gift for my boyfriend a starting point for his daily skin routine: COSrx Oil-Free Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion with Birch Sap.
It was tough deciding which product to start him off on. I didn’t want to overwhelm him with any sort of essence, serum, exfoliator, or toner. Those would just confuse him and probably put him in a bad mood (Whoa, whoa, whoa, I have to put this on after what and before WHAT?) I also wanted something that wouldn’t leave an overpowering scent or residue behind. So I decided on something simple – a lightweight moisturizer. COSrx designed this product to really hydrate dry and oily skin without the heaviness of a thicke product. This also happens to be my favorite go-to summer moisturizer when I need something light but long-lasting.
70% of this product is packed with birch tree juice (an ingredient full of vitamins, proteins, minerals, antioxidants, and enzymes), which ends up replacing water in the product entirely. It helps soothe sensitive or irritated skin, and helps calm acne-prone skin without causing any further breakouts. There are two oils listed, however (lemon peel oil and tea tree leaf oil) even though the product claims to be oil-free, but it’s likely both oils are only present in trace amounts. This name confusion doesn’t bother me much at all though – it’s still the only moisturizer I trust to not leave a greasy or excessively dewy finish on my skin.
The texture is light, smooth, and silky. It’s so easy to dispense from the pump bottle (guy-friendly, I think). It’s not too runny. It doesn’t slide all over your hand or fingers, but instead, glides easily over your face. The scent is slightly antiseptic – most likely from the tea tree leaf – but it’s not overpowering and disappears quickly. I put a pump on my hand just a few minutes ago to take a photo of the consistency, and I can’t smell a thing now. It’s best to use after cleansing and toning, and before a heavier moisturizer – the product is deceptively hydrating so you may not need another. In fact, I find this moisturizer keeps my skin hydrated longer than a thicker one.
As my boyfriend’s first skincare product, it’s perfect. It’s not complicated or confusing on how to use. It doesn’t smell aggressively floral or fruity. It’s easy to apply, quick to dry, and doesn’t leave behind a shiny sheen on your skin. It has a cooling feeling too when you pat it in ,which I know will appeal to him and his very sensitive, blotchy skin.
So, if you’re looking for a Valentine’s gift for your man (or woman), definitely give this moisturizer a look! It’s a great start for anybody’s skincare routine.
